So You Want To Be a Titleholder... Part 1
So you want (or think you want) to be a Titleholder.
Here are some tips from your friendly neighborhood titleholding Lynx Jinx.
1. Be yourself...to a degree.
Now that you are in the spotlight, be aware that anything and everything will be brought to light. People may not always remember everything you have done for them, but they will remember the one thing you fucked up.
2. Stay humble.
Remember where you came from and who helped you along the way. They will be there for you long after your title year is up.
3. Be honest.
Tell the truth...whether is is regarding where you turned in your receipts for travel reimbursement, or whether or not you are the single titleholder for the year. Always be honest.
4. Hold your tongue.
Life isn't fair...so why should contests and title years be any different? Bite back the words until the opportune time. A title isn't about saying everything you want to say... It is about saying what you want at the right time to the right people and making a difference.
5. Stay cool, calm, and collected.
Think before you speak and act. If you scream and yell about every thing, no one will hear you.
6. Acknowledge your title-spouse(s).
You were chosen to represent the entire community...so were your title-spouses. We are all here to help you and be helped in return. Announce that you are one of (whatever number). Know and say their names. They can make or break you during (or after) your year.
7. Seek the truth.
Before acting or speaking, know the truth. Talk to multiple sources. Most times, things are not always as they appear. In any given situation, there are always at least three sides...one side, the other side and what really happened.
8. People suck.
They will promise you the moon but give you a stick...maybe. They will try to take credit for your work. Don't let them.
9. Work hard.
If the year is easy for you, you're doing it wrong. This is hard work and don't believe anyone who tells you otherwise. Bust your ass. This is YOUR LEGACY. Make it something to be proud of.
10. Ask for help.
Your community wants to support you. Ask them for help. Ask for resources. Ask for input. They are the people you are representing. Ask them what THEY want.
